Same Time Next Year?!

Final Recaps from Aimee, Anna & Megan!

Two weeks in Romania serving with Missio Link International was life changing. I’m so incredibly thankful for the work this ministry does and for the opportunity to enter into their daily life routine. Our sole purpose of going was to show and teach these beautiful girls about who God is and equip them with the tools they will need to grow in their relationship with Him throughout their life. As we watched their eyes light up upon receiving their very own Bible, we saw that they were hungry for the Word of God. Each day in Bible Study they were engaged in learning how to look up Scripture and use the actual words of the Bible to shed light on some hard life questions. As we were there teaching, I was overwhelmed at how the Lord could use inadequate me to teach His Word. My biggest take away from this trip is the comforting reality and truth that God desires to use any of us humans to love on our fellow humans…all of us spectacularly made in His image. If we just say, “Yes, Lord I will be an instrument in your hands," He will be faithful to accomplish His good work. It’s all about the Lord and the great story He keeps on telling about His creation. It’s not about what story we want to tell…..Thank you Jesus! May God bless these girls as they grow up and may He heal all of the broken places in them and in us. - Aimee Hudson

This is a trip that I have wanted to attend for the past few years, but was not able to attend until this year. It is so interesting now (post trip) to think about how the Lord must have had me on this specific team at this specific time for a specific reason. I believe that He has a plan and purpose for all things, even small details like the personalities, strengths, and weaknesses of the members who make up a mission team. I loved seeing how God used these small details to allow us to serve the Deborah House girls in a unique way. I was able to help lead crafts and activities with the girls each day, and I am so thankful for this unique opportunity to have fun and build relationships with them. Whether we were making bracelets, painting, braiding hair, or playing Bingo, we were connecting with each other and becoming great friends. The language barrier was very difficult for me… for the first couple of days I felt like I really could not connect with the girls on any sort of deep level because I could not freely communicate and get to know them. However, as the week went on I was able to watch their personalities peak through, giving me more insight on just how to love them and interact with them effectively. Before long I realized that the deep love I was beginning to have for them could not be quenched or minimized by our language barrier. I fell in love with their unique personalities and talents- you know, those things that don’t have to be translated: R's love for photography, S’s gift of drawing and painting, C’s quiet, stoic personality, R’s sassiness, P’s athleticism, L’s sweet spirit. These girls captured my heart this week and I have a feeling that I will never forget my time with them. To be honest, the deep love and sadness did not set in until my plane took off from the Timișoara airport. As Wil and I began our trek back to the U.S., the reality of the girls’ situations slowly manifested in my heart. I still have not processed through all of the emotions and thoughts in my heart and mind, but for now, my prayer for the girls is threefold: 1. That the Lord would capture each of their hearts and draw them into an intimate relationship with Him. 2. That each girl would feel deeply loved and chosen by the Father and the MLI/Deborah House staff. 3. That, by God’s grace, I could see them again and enjoy life together in some capacity, whatever that may be. Same time and place next year?

Trip 11, I found myself taking for granted the opportunity to return yet again to Romania. But I realized quickly, the Lord didn't have to let me come back. He didn't have to provide all the resources our teams needed. Ultimately the Lord doesn't need me to accomplish His mission in Romania. BUT GOD, in his kindness, graciousness & sovereignty chose me to be a part of the MLI story. Immediately I was humbled with this realization. It is really hard to pick highlights when both weeks were so sweet and I could see the Lord working in big and small ways. Returning, I loved seeing the ways the girls have grown up, matured and have been equipped by the MLI staff with the tools to process their trauma in a healthy way. One girl last year was always the rowdy one in Bible study, she never wanted to sit still or cooperate (that was her trauma speaking) but this year, I witnessed so much growth in her as she was eager for Bible study and all the activities. The youngest girl is new to DH and we became fast friends. One of my team members asked me how long I have known this girl and I told them, only a week! They were shocked because of how close we had become in such a short time. She also learned to swim while we were there. I don't get any credit, BUT GOD in His perfect timing, allowed my path to cross with this sweet girl. There aren't enough words to express how incredible the MLI staff are. Short term teams come for a week, this staff is with the girls all day every day. Dealing with teenage girls with all the hormones that come with that is exhausting, add on top of that trauma and grief, it feels impossible. But I watched as the MLI staff fully lean on Christ to sustain them each day as they love the girls and lead them in the healing process. God hand picked each staff member for such a time as this and I am thankful to be witness to it! God gets all the glory for the Kingdom work happening in Romania!

It's Not Goodbye, Just See You Later!

Recaps from Jamie, Sydney & Molli! Our week in Romania was incredible.  I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to go back a second time and see some familiar faces - people I call friends. We arrived on Saturday, June 29th and had dinner with the week one team. We were exhausted from travel, but it was really great to hear about their experiences and have a few hours to talk and laugh together before they had to go back home. Sunday, June 30th we attended Emil's church, and again, it felt so good to be back in a familiar setting with friends from across the world. Wilson gave the sermon, with Emil translating.  The songs we sang and the prayers we prayed were all in Romanian, but we were all worshiping the same God. To me that's an image of what heaven will look like - every nation, tribe and tongue bowing before the King of Kings. We started our week at Deborah House on Monday, July 1st. The week consisted of eight sessions of Bible study and crafts, where we ta...

One Step Closer to Eternity

Recap of Week 2 from  Heidi, Wilson, & Brandy! As I reflect on my time in Romania, I cannot help but be filled with gratitude, joy, and awe of what the Lord is doing there. Our time spent with the girls was so sweet and went by way too fast! It was so special being able to walk through the names of God with them and remind them just how personal God is. He delights in the details of our lives, and the depth of love He has for us is immeasurable. The girls were able to see how their identity is rooted in Him alone. Our identity is not found in worldly success, relationships, or our mistakes. When we accept His gift of salvation, we are His children. No matter what the world throws at us, we can peacefully rest in the promise of eternity. Along with Bible study, the girls did crafts. I helped in crafts all week, and it was so fun seeing each of their personalities expressed by the way they did their craft. girls are so creative and took their time with each one to make it their ...

Forever Etched in My Heart

Recaps from Lesley, Kim & Hannah!      Just a quick recap of my week in Romania. I didn’t know what to expect coming on this trip and the emotions we would have. This week will be forever etched in my heart. Being able to love on those girls and share the love of Jesus was such a great experience for me. I also enjoyed getting to know the ladies on my team at such a more personal level. Watching the girls do crafts and just smile and hug us, warmed my heart. This will be a week I will never forget.  - Lesley Brinkmann      It is very difficult to put into words how wonderful was a week at The Deborah House. I am so thankful to God and to my family that I was able to return for a second year. I have thought about and prayed for those precious girls since I left last June. To be able to see them and hug them again was wonderful.  Our week was full of fun activities with the girls and as a team. I hope that the girls felt the love of Jesus...
